Adam and the Ants, though active for a short period of time in the late 70s and early 80s, have left a mark on many alternative rock bands and post-punk groups. Elastica and Suede are regarded to have been influenced by the punk and glam of Adam and the Ants. The exhibitionism portrayed by Adam and the Ants in the early 80s, including pirate outfits (the idea of Malcolm McLaren who managed the band for a short period) has further influenced the entire MTV movement in its formative years.
